How can relaxation give you MORE power, not less?
Join us for an hour Tai Chi practice exploring this question through an 8-week curriculum that cycles continuously. We practice Chen and Yang style Tai Chi using the approach of physicist and Tai Chi Master Wonchull Park—combining traditional martial arts with simple muscle physiology and basic physics to reveal how optimal movement works.
Each session guides you through the practice of "laying down the burden" and "finely long"—the core methods for discovering relaxation-in-action in Tai Chi forms and movement. Join at any phase. The cycle repeats, deepening each time through. Come ready for relaxing movement and awareness practice. Beginners welcome—whether you're curious about Tai Chi or learning forms through online tutorials, these sessions share the essence of the practice.
Our 3-Phase Cycle:
Phase 1: Relax to Strengthen What if your "resting" muscles could make you stronger by staying relaxed in action?
Phase 2: Effort to Comfort What if your working muscles generate power by lengthening, not just contracting?
Phase 3: Free-Connect to Integrate What if your whole body could work together instead of fighting itself?
If you're curious about tai chi and want to learn with gentle guidance and community support, you're welcome to join us and see how it feels.
Starts with 30 minutes of guided movement awareness practice (live streamed on Insight Timer as well as Zoom)
Then 15 minutes to practice with one of the bite-sized tutorials. Each person chooses their video and has their own breakout room. I visit rooms to offer encouragement and answer questions.
We close with 15 minutes of integration -- limbering, sharing insights, and practicing together with the weekly theme.
The individual practice and integration portions are available only to Zoom participants. This format acknowledges that people learn at different paces and offers a supportive path for exploring tai chi without having to "go it alone" or keep up with a group.
We’re dedicated to making traditional Tai Chi forms accessible: if you want to learn, you can.
